Redefining Strength Training
Redefining Strength Training
London, UK / Jan 29, 2026 / Altere Studios — Across London’s leading wellness destinations, a new approach to strength is quietly taking hold, one rooted in approachability and thoughtful design.
As wellness expectations evolve, the definition of strength is expanding. Today’s consumers expect a more varied and balanced approach to strength training that values recovery and mindfulness alongside high intensity exertion.
Directly addressing these expectations is Altere, a London-based design studio and equipment manufacturer providing wellness operators with a turnkey alternative to traditional strength training. Through handcrafted free weights and mindful movement concepts, Altere makes loaded movement feel like a deliberate ritual rather than an explosive, high-stress experience.
Altere’s growing presence in London’s preeminent wellness destinations, including KX and 180 Health Club, reflects this rising demand for a refined counterpart to high intensity training. Since its launch in late 2024, Altere’s tools and methodologies have become the preferred option for thousands of their partners’ members seeking to lift weights in a calmer, more considered way.
“Strength is fundamental to healthy aging, yet the environments and tools associated with it haven’t evolved,” says Altere Design Director Alex Liew. “We wanted to create a strength system that feels inviting rather than intimidating—something that encourages people to engage consistently, whether they’re new to strength or returning to it later in life.”
A Kettlebell: Reimagined
While kettlebells are the most versatile tools for building strength, traditional models often pinch, bruise and retain odors due to their metal composite, discouraging consistent practice. Altere’s flagship product, the Edition 01: Bell, takes a design-led approach to remove common friction points to make strength training easier to adopt consistently.
Handcrafted from engineered stone, Altere’s products are ergonomically contoured to guide hands smoothly from one hold to the next, minimising pinching and bruising. A superior grip limits discomfort from sweating and blistering so movement remains controlled and confident. Subtle irregularities in its stone appearance present it aesthetically as a personal, sculptural object derived from nature, not molten in an industrial foundry.
Mindful Movement Concepts
The products are brought to life with two licensable movement methodologies: Slow Strength® and Slow Stretch®, each delivered in partner venues by Altere-accredited trainers.
Slow Strength® synchronises controlled, loaded movement with breath and sound to build resilience and improve form. It serves as a restorative yet rigorous practice that supports sustainable strength outcomes.
Slow Stretch®, also set to a grounding soundscape, focuses on loaded mobility and PNF stretching to address chronic tightness, support joint health and prime the body for fluid movement.
Together, they form the foundation of Altere’s approach to mindful strength
A Turnkey Strength Solution for Operators
For wellness operators, Altere acts more like a design partner than a wholesale equipment supplier. From spatial planning and bespoke storage to instructor onboarding, the design studio manages every detail. The result is strong, sustained uptake across partner venues: classes book quickly, repeat attendance stays high and studios expand programming to meet growing member demand.
For operators, Altere offers a rare combination: a premium, design-led strength experience that engages their audience while remaining straightforward to implement and maintain.
“Our goal is to make strength feel like a ritual people want to return to,” says Alex. “When environments for strength are thoughtfully considered, we notice people engage consistently, and that consistency is what sustains long-term strength outcomes.”
Leading wellness destinations are quick to respond to changing consumer expectations, and Altere is keeping pace. The design studio is scaling fast, expanding its Resistance and Recovery product lines and growing its network of accredited trainers, embedding its mindful strength approach to movement studios, clubs and hospitality spaces globally.
